Lincoln Binns Ltd is 30 years old this year. From it’s humble beginnings in a loft and a shed back in 1985 it has moved into it’s 30th year as a solidly established business in 4000 sq foot of offices and workshops packed with a range of high tech equipment. From it’s one man start up it has become a highly skilled, specialised team of ten. From a single range of electronic enclosures it has expanded into a range of five different types of enclosures in multiple sizes, rack panels and has the ability to customise enclosures to a customer’s exact requirements.
As a young graduate I was urgently trying to source a suitable enclosure for a circuit board for the project I was working on”, CEO, John Binns remembers, “but I just could not find what I had in mind. This got me thinking that perhaps I could design and produce a suitable aluminium extruded enclosure. Of course, standard circuit boards come in more than one size which led to different size and length enclosures and so the idea for Lincoln Binns was born.”

John said, “ Over time this dedication to exceptional customer service has led to the development of the customisation side of our business. Customers kept asking whether it was possible to have holes punched for connectors in end plates, whether it was possible to have their company logo on the box, whether it was possible to have a special length box, whether it was possible to do some engineering design…the answer, in short, was yes, it is possible. So from offering only standard products, Lincoln Binns can now offer customisable sizing, engineering design and CAD, rendering and visualisations, prototyping, CNC punching and milling, laser and full colour printing. This has allowed us to effectively become the product design department for many companies. Our customers showed us the way ahead.“
Key to the well being of Lincoln Binns is the attitude towards staff. Here, everyone counts and everyone has a say. There are regular meetings designed to ensure transparency and that nothing is overlooked. Management has an open door policy so that any issues can be raised and dealt with long before they become a serious problem. The result is a warm, friendly working environment where, as John says, “We are all pulling together.”
As Lincoln Binns moves into it’s fourth decade John and Martyn Buxton, Managing Director, are making plans for the future. “With the advent of the global village we hope to extend our product design facilities to more and more companies across the world,” Martyn enthused, “Already we have had customers flying in from the United States, France and Ireland to use our design and prototyping facilities and we hope to expand this to include customers from right across the globe.”
