When the heat damages your battery

It’s summer, we’re on the go, and our smartphone is always with us. At this time of year, this can quickly become dangerous for the battery.
So what should be considered?
Battery expert Dr. Jürgen Heydecke sees hot cars in particular as a danger to the battery: “Of course, the phone should not be in direct sunlight, as this can cause the device as well as the battery to become extremely hot. But it gets even hotter in the car – even more so when the phone is resting on a cradle directly under the windshield.” Heydecke does not see any danger of the batteries cracking, but emphasizes that performance and battery life suffer massively under such conditions. “It is particularly harmful to the battery if it is additionally charged in such heat,” says the chemistry Ph.D.
So for the longest possible service life, it is better to make sure that the phone is not left in the car – and especially not directly in the sun.
Better still: Take the phone with you and keep it in a bag in the shade.
Lunch from the mini-steamer – thanks to battery power from anywhere
Long lines at the microwave in the university canteen, a short lunch break and then the food also loses its taste and vitamins. For the trio of founders of the start-up Nexenic, this was the reason to revolutionize the topic of Meal prep.
Utilising a Jauch Lithium Battery, the mini steamer can be used to prepare food for a small group of people, providing a convenient and efficient solution for those on the go. The lightweight, compact design of the Jauch battery makes it an ideal choice for powering portable devices and appliances, such as the mini lunch steamer.

Lithium-Polymer Batteries
When designs need to be flexible, Lithium-Polymer Batteries are the ideal solution.
An advantage of Lithium-Polymer Batteries is the almost infinite number of sizes since steel housings are not required. A plastic-coated aluminium foil is used instead of such housing. Therefore, very thin cells can be manufactured. They are also a bit lighter compared to other Lithium based batteries. Moreover, the variety of different sizes presents greater freedom in the design of the final product. Custom sizes are available at relatively low production volumes so that the existing space for the battery can be utilized optimally.
Lithium Coin-Cell Batteries
Lithium batteries are available in many different versions, which differ in terms of cathode, electrolyte, and separator. They are available in different designs and sizes to accommodate a wide range of applications. Because of their high voltage of 3 volts, high capacity, wide temperature range, and long shelf life (due to low self-discharge) they have a wide range of applications.
Main application areas are car keys, watches, medical equipment, toys, LED flashlights, and of course any form of memory back-up.
Know-How: Guide to the design of Lithium-Polymer Batteries
Due to their variable designs, dimensions and capacities, Lithium-Polymer Batteries can be integrated into almost any housing. It is therefore all the more important that the battery is suitably designed for the application in which it will be used. Therefore, the parameters of the battery as well as the associated safety electronics must be precisely defined.
This whitepaper serves as a guide for product developers in the design-in of Lithium-Polymer Batteries.
