Switches, sensors and enclosures specialist, Bernstein Ltd, will be showcasing how its Contactless Safety Monitoring Switch, CSMS, ensures compliance with ISO 14119:2013 on stand F65 at Southern Manufacturing.
The CSMS is an electronic safety sensor that monitors safety doors and protective guards to ensure they remain closed. The contactless, uniquely coded communication between sensor and actuator offers the highest levels of safety (PLe) and protection against manipulation.
The newly revised internationally recognised standard for the safety of machinery with interlocking devices associated with guards will come into force imminently, replacing the previous 1998 version and all national standards including EN 1088 in the UK.
ISO 14119 has been updated to include some of the latest technologies that were not commonplace when the standard was first drafted, including RFID and electromagnetic guard locking, and specifically addresses the issue of ‘defeating’ interlocking guards.
Bernstein’s CSMS uses RFID technology to offer the highest level of protection (high-level coding) against guard manipulation.

The CSMS, which is rated to IP67, also benefits from excellent self-diagnostic capabilities which ensure open safety guards and system errors can be located quickly. When the protective device is opened, a signal is generated by the CSMS that stops the machine and prevents a dangerous restart.

Bernstein’s CSMS was recently awarded third place in the prestigious GIT Security Awards 2014 Safe Automation category. The awards recognise the best three products in five different categories, as voted for by readers of German publication, GIT Security.
The company will also be showcasing its latest range of Control Enclosures, CC-5000 neXt and Aluminium Suspension System, CC-3000 neXt at both Southern Manufacturing and MACH, taking place in April at the NEC.
Bernstein’s most slimline range to date, CC-5000 neXt has been specifically developed to meet an increasing demand for control enclosures that offer great design, as well as high performance. CC-5000 neXt enclosures benefit from a streamlined design which can be configured in a number of different ways and customised to match the customer’s corporate identity.
CC-5000 neXt can be supplied in nine installation depths ranging from 53 mm to 334 mm and is available in height and width dimensions up to 1000mm.
The CS-3000 neXt suspension system combines functionality with modern design and components and tubes can also be customised to a wide range of RAL colours, offering the potential to bespoke the system to match the control enclosure.
