A new development kit for single-chip 3D gesture/free space position tracking devices has been released by Microchip. The Hillstar development kit supports development of the latest in 3D gesturing systems. It is a complete reference system consisting of an MGC3130 module and one example reference electrode. It features several additional reference electrode designs, including Aurea Graphical User Interface Software, and an I2C-to-USB Bridge Module. As a result the development kit makes it easier to impliment the MGC3130 into several different form factors.
The GestIC Technology enabled with the MGC3130 is ideal for a wide range of applications in computing, such as laptops, keyboards, input devices; lighting applications including lighting switches and controls; consumer electronics such as audio docks, printers and copiers; and automotive markets for automotive interior controls, among others.
The development kit enables integration of an advanced 3D hand position and gesturing user interface into virtually any electronic product using a modular approach with complete documentation, reference layouts, hardware and a software GUI.
