Yokogawa, specialists in industrial automation and test & measurement solutions, announced a new, wireless noise surveillance system last week, as part of its OpreX Measurement range, due for release on 24 July. It looks to employ wireless technology and explosion-proof sensors, for use in plants to strengthen the infrastructure’s surveillance. The noise mapping that this will inspire can be applied to plan work schedules, for the effective organisation of workers, so that their specified hours are not exceeded to the detriment of their health.
Compliant with the ISA100 Wireless network protocol, WN100 sensors can be installed at many locations throughout a plant to measure noise levels and transmit this data in real time to servers, via gateway devices such as the Yokogawa YFGW410 field wireless management station. From this data, the WN30 software can then construct in real time a noise map, superimposing this onto an actual map of the plant. Via an Ethernet connection, computers in the central control room and other key locations can then display these graphics in a web browser.
Yokogawa hopes to extend this product into the oil, petrochemical, chemical, iron and steel plants, among others. For more information, click here for Yokogawa’s core site.
