119 medium Wireless Forum connects the industry with a bespoke line up of industry specialistsMichelle Winny visits the RF & Wireless Forum at the Formula 1 Conference Centre in Oxfordshire in association with Motiv8, where the latest in wireless technology was uncovered in this ‘new style’ specialist forum.

The trend for wireless technology is continually being proliferated by ‘The Internet of Things’ as we move to a world where more and more devices join the ‘connected revolution’. This is accelerating the adoption of wireless technology into an ever wider market share of devices.

The maturity and growth of wireless technology was highlighted at the Fortronic RF & Wireless Forum held in June at the Willams F1 conference centre. This was a bustling event that explored a range of topics in wireless technology, covering key issues and developments from companies such as Microchip, Linear Technology, Avago and A&S PCB-DFM Consultancy along with a focused exhibition of wireless specialists.

At the event, LPRS announced the release of its easy Radio Integrated Controller (eRIC), an RF transceiver intended for high volume applications.

Wireless LAN and Bluetooth transceiver modules were also presented by Murata. The company’s LBEP series of wireless modules cater to the power budget by providing wireless LAN Bluetooth and Bluetooth low energy connectivity. The modules include an integrated crystal and do not need any external components, keeping the system at low cost.

These devices respond to the demands of low power versus high performance in advancing applications such as multi-media, point-of-sale and portable data terminals found increasingly in retail.

The event organisers advised that some, 130 attendees registered for the Fortronic UK forum, with 105 approved engineers arriving on the day, which was a record for this event, with just 11 having been to a previous forum.

Our desire to consume more and more data on an increasing range of devices has created a new revolution in wireless applications. Reaching everything from automotive, consumer, the connected home and building automation, this technology has major energy efficiency and cost benefits that is favoured by many. It is a technology that is here to stay and one that will continue to grow giving firm grounds and relevancy for events such as the Motiv8 RF & Wireless forum to continue to expand and grow.
