Industrial communications and networking company, Moxa Europe, will present its new EtherCAT and Ethernet APL (Advanced Physical Layer) products at SPS 2025 (25-27 November, 2025, in Nuremberg) in Hall 5, Booth 419.

Moxa’s EtherCAT junctions and gateways support industrial applications with fast, cost-effective and deterministic EtherCAT technology. Thanks to their high reliability in continuous operation, an intuitive interface for easy configuration, and compact size, they allow users to create flexible topologies and convert serial networks to industrial Ethernet.

The EJS series EtherCAT junctions are designed for greater flexibility and efficiency in industrial EtherCAT networks. Thanks to the simple configuration of star, line, ring and tree topologies, EtherCAT devices can be connected in a modular and efficient way. Users can connect a redundant power supply to two power inputs, which ensures continuous operation in the event of a main power failure. With its robust metal housing, high electromagnetic compatibility and wide temperature range, the EJS series guarantees uninterrupted, reliable operation in harsh industrial environments. Certifications from the EtherCAT Technology Group (ETG) and the EtherCAT Test Centre vouch for compatibility and seamless integration into any network.

The MGate 5216 series EtherCAT gateways support both Modbus RTU/ASCII clients and MicroPython for programming proprietary serial protocols. This means that Modbus and serial devices can be connected to an EtherCAT host. Multiple serial devices can be connected cost-effectively via two serial ports that are configured via software. The EtherCAT gateways offer an intuitive web console for easy configuration. Monitoring and diagnostic tools support troubleshooting while security functions based on IEC 62443-4-2 ensure reliable protection.

Moxa is presenting its Ethernet APL switches at SPS for the first time. Ethernet APL revolutionises field communication by transmitting data and power over a single connection and allowing for high-speed communication at 10Mbps in full-duplex mode over distances of up to 1,000 meters. This makes Ethernet APL ideal for building scalable and reliable industrial networks that increase operational efficiency. Due to its inherent safety features and explosion protection, Ethernet APL is also suitable for use in hazardous environments.

Lecture: Trends with traction – APL is transforming process automation, while TSN with OPC UA FX emerges as a strong contender in the PLC space

The complex ecosystem of vendors, standards, system integrators and long-lifecycle machinery makes widespread adoption of new technologies challenging. Two trends are gaining momentum:

  • APL brings Ethernet to process automation, where fieldbuses still prevail.
  • TSN with OPC UA FX aims for deterministic, plug-and-play communication between controllers and devices.

Place: SPS Stage in Hall 6

Lecture: Process X & NOA – The digital revolution in the process industry

NAMUR Open Architecture (NOA) and Process X bring together established and emerging technologies such as Ethernet-APL, MTP, and data models like PA-DIM (NAMUR), OPC UA for Machinery (VDMA), and the Asset Administration Shell (AAS) to enable scalable and secure architectures for data exchange between OT and IT. Through practical examples, the speakers will demonstrate how operators and manufacturers can jointly establish the foundation for secure, effective, and scalable information exchange from field devices to IT systems and across enterprise boundaries.

Comprehensive product portfolio for future-proof and secure OT networks

In line with the principle “Manufacturing connected. Securely. Since 1987.”, Moxa will also showcase its comprehensive portfolio of switches, next-gen firewalls, intrusion prevention systems, and serial-to-Ethernet gateways. Compliance with IEC 62443-4-2 makes it possible to implement industrial cybersecurity requirements easily and conveniently, such as NIS-2 and the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA). As the Moxa product range supports numerous protocols (e.g., PROFINET, MRP, EtherCAT, OPC UA FX), it stands for interoperability, scalability and flexibility. Moxa’s expanded serial-to-Ethernet gateway portfolio allows the integration of brownfield into modern OT networks.

Lecture: CRA for machine builders – How OT network solutions help achieve compliance
The presentation answers the following questions: How can machine builders meet CRA requirements using OT network solutions? What are the key criteria for selecting products and solutions? What should be considered during implementation?
