Saint Bonnet de Mure, November 27, 2024 – The energy transition poses major challenges for electricity grid operators: They have to integrate a large number of new energy generators into their local and regional distribution grids. The electrical systems specialist Mersen has now developed the ideal solution for this task: the innovative, modular ProGrid NH fuse-switch disconnector. ProGrid has been specially designed for use in grid and transformer stations, cable distribution cabinets and low-voltage distribution boards. The new modular generation of fuse switch-disconnectors not only protects local low-voltage networks from overcurrent, but also records the energy flows and measures other parameters.
Different versions available
The new modular ProGrid offer is available in three versions: Mersen ProGrid, Mersen ProGrid Smart and Mersen ProGrid SmartStation. Mersen ProGrid standalone fuse switch-disconnectors protect substations, transformer stations or switchgear in buildings against overcurrent and short circuits. This version has a new, safe and patented switching mechanism and can be upgraded with a smart module for monitoring if required. In the second version, ProGrid Smart, the energy monitoring module and sensors are already included. ProGrid Smart has an extended range of functions and enables efficient measurement of the energy flow at the low-voltage outgoing circuits of the switchgear, transformer station or substation.
Complete intelligent monitoring system
The third variant, ProGrid SmartStation, records the energy flow in low-voltage grids in real time. ProGrid SmartStation can be combined with other modular measuring devices and sensors so that grid operators can create a complete intelligent monitoring system for their medium/low-voltage transformer stations. The intelligent fuse switch-disconnectors are available in two versions: the smart module is located either on the top or bottom of the device. The top version is ideal for installation in new switchboards or transformer stations/substations.
Simple and safe installation
Thanks to its patented mechanism, the ProGrid fuse switch disconnectors are not only quick and easy to install, they also make maintenance child’s play. With a single twist, the installer can access the fuse effortlessly. Mersen ProGrid can also be easily and safely mounted on live busbars using suitable tools. In addition, the device can be attached to unbolted busbars using hook terminals – even with current transformers.
Close cooperation with grid operators
Mersen has worked closely with leading grid operators in the development of ProGrid. ProGrid fuse switch-disconnectors are therefore ideal for efficiently adapting distribution grids, gaining flexibility and efficiently balancing new, growing loads and power sources such as PV panels, EV charging stations and heat pumps.
The concept of the fuse switch-disconnector also impressed the jury of the German Innovation Award 2024, which honored ProGrid in the ‘Excellence in Business to Business’ category.
