Marvell, specialist in semiconductor solutions for enterprise, cloud, automotive, industrial and consumer markets, has announced an expansion of their partnership with Arm, for the purposes of speeding the design and development of Marvell’s ThunderX server processor technology. Arm intends to support Marvell’s R&D with its server processor technology for at least three more years; Marvell can subsequently look to expand its Arm-based server products as a result, combining to enlighten the next generation of cloud and data centre infrastructures.

This is a continuation of a working partnership that has launched alternatives offered by the x86 computing market. Marvell’s ThunderX2, based on the Arm v8-A architecture, is the collaborative result: it provides high performance, low power output and a reduced, total cost of ownership, underlining the utility of Marvell and Arm’s industrial relationship.

“Marvell has demonstrated innovative silicon and software technologies to deliver high-performance, Arm-based solutions across the infrastructure market,” said Rene Haas, president of Arm’s IP products group:  “With this expanded partnership, Marvell is now well positioned to develop and deliver some of the most advanced server processor technology in the world.”

“Arm’s investment in Marvell’s server processor technology is a testament to the strength of our development team, accelerating our vision of scaling highly differentiated solutions for the global computing ecosystem,” said Raghib Hussain, Marvell’s chief strategy officer and executive vice president of the networking and processors group:  “Furthermore, our partnership reinforces Marvell’s strategic commitment to offering breakthrough server processor solutions to our cloud and high performance compute customers, leveraging Arm’s architecture, as together we take cloud-scale computing to the next level.”
