Alpha Micro has announced availability of the EVK-W262U USB-powered evaluation kit for the u-blox ODIN-W262 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth module. The same USB connection is used for data and the kit includes the u-blox configuration tool for Windows.

The EVK-W262U makes it quick an easy to add multiradio connectivity to any Internet of Things (IoT) product, including those used in M2M applications. The ODIN-W262 module upon which it’s based supports concurrent operation over Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), Classic Bluetooth and Bluetooth low energy (v4.0). Configuration is very easy via familiar AT commands and the module has a built in antenna, which can be used in any orientation. The multiradio unit needs no external host, and is offered with an embedded driver, stack and wireless data transfer application.

The ODIN-W262 can be used for point-to-multipoint cable replacement and in any application that benefits from several radios operating simultaneously. For example, Bluetooth low energy may be used for sending commands to a product from a smartphone at the same time as streaming video is carried over the module’s Wi-Fi radio, over either a 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz link.

Also, where different versions of the same product need to be created, perhaps one that connects to a host system or Internet gateway using Bluetooth Classic and another that uses Wi-Fi, choosing a multiradio module simplifies inventory and cuts costs.

The ODIN-W262 multiradio module is very compact at 14.8 mm x 22.3 mm x 4.5 mm, so can be easily accommodated within compact product packaging, even in devices such as handheld wireless controllers.
