A series of flip-type ZIF plug connectors for FFC/FPC have been released by Yamaichi Electronics.

The HF601 series is a zero-force FFC connector with a pitch of 0.5mm, which provides a large number of variants to combine plug reliability and variability.

The connectors feature a wide-opening flap into which a standard FFC/FPC can be inserted. The interlock is engaged by pressing the flap closed.

The design of the solution allows it to accept FFCs with ‘ears’. This provides security against the FFC being pulled out.

The series also consists of a horizontal variant with 10, 20, 26, 30, 40, 45, 50, or 60 pins. This version features a particularly low installation height of 2mm.

A special feature of the two variants is the shape of the contacts and their gold plating, which guarantee transmission rates of 700Mbps to 1Gbps. This is claimed to be an advance from conventional ZIF connectors, which offer only about 50 percent  of this performance.

The third area of the series is a high-speed connector in horizontal form with 22 pins.

This variant can transmit up to 3Gbps at a stable impedance of 100O (+/- 10 percent).

This is ensured by switching to ground between each pair of signal contacts. The connector can be used as an HDMI interface.
