Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) comes to ExCeL next month with an expanded and enhanced offering for the sector it serves. A world-class exhibition and conference, DSEI is a comprehensive showcase of the very latest technologies and services from leading organisations, as well as exclusive networking opportunities for its exhibitors, visitors and conference delegates. DSEI 2015 is expected to attract more than 32,000 visitors, including 150 programmed delegations from over 60 countries, and over 2,800 global VIPs. Breaking all previous records, the event is set to showcase more than 1,500 exhibitors from over 50 countries. To date DSEI will host over 40 international pavilions.
Seminars & conferences
Reflecting the increased level of content for 2015, DSEI will host around 300 seminar sessions and keynotes across seven theatres. DSEI will also stage four new high-level conferences focused on the future strategy of maritime defence, rotorcraft technology, front line medical services, and lessons learnt from the recent Ebola epidemic. The DSEI Strategic Conferences take place at ExCeL on Monday 14 September and Tuesday 15 September: ‘The First Sea Lord/RUSI International Sea Power Conference’ with a keynote from Admiral Sir George Zambellas KCB DSC ADC DL FRAeS; Trauma Innovation with a keynote from Brigadier Tim Hodgetts CBE, Medical Director at Defence Medical Services (DMS); The Future of Military Rotorcraft: 2030 and Beyond with Major General Richard Felton, Commander, Joint Helicopter Command providing the keynote; and Air Marshal Paul Evans, Surgeon General of Defence Medical Services (DMS) will chair ‘Ebola Learning Exploitation’ with a keynote from Jennifer Cole, Senior Research Fellow, Resilience & Emergency Management, Royal United Services Institute (RUSI).
Senior political & military engagement
The UK Secretary of State for Defence, the Rt Hon Michael Fallon MP will be attending DSEI and delivering a keynote speech during the exhibition. The Secretary of State for Defence will be supported by other ministers from the Ministry of Defence including Philip Dunne MP, Minister of State for Defence Procurement, who is also lined up to attend and deliver a keynote address.
DSEI 2015 will also have unprecedented support from both the UK and international military, with senior personnel, including the four UK MOD service chiefs, confirmed to speak in the exhibition floor theatres: Admiral Sir George Zambellas, First Sea Lord and Chief of the Naval Staff of the Royal Navy; General Sir Nicholas Carter, Chief of the General Staff, British Army; Air Chief Marshal Sir Andrew Pulford, Chief of the Air Staff, Royal Air Force and General Sir Richard Barrons, Commander Joint Forces Command, will speak on days that are themed for their individual Services.
Exhibition
Themed zones
The DSEI exhibition will feature six themed zones for visitors to meet exhibiting companies and view their associated products, either on their stand, in a static display or in a realistic demonstration scenario. Focus areas include, but are not limited to: Air Zone; Land Zone; Medical Innovation Zone; Naval Zone, to include waterborne demonstrations; Security & Special Forces Zone; and the Unmanned Zone. Products, services and technologies showcased at DSEI reflect current and emerging operational requirements across the globe.
Air
A range of static displays are expected to include a Sea King helicopter, Merlin, Wildcat, Watchkeeper UAV and Eurofighter Typhoon multi-role combat aircraft, among others. The Air Zone has grown considerably and DSEI will showcase the whole defence supply chain from leading aerospace primes such as Airbus Defence & Space, Bell Helicopters, Saab AB, Lockheed Martin, Boeing and Northrop Grumman to small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) such as Mototok International (Germany), Israel Aerospace Industries (Israel), Linwave (UK), Metis Aerospace (UK) and Gentex Corporation (UK).
Land
The land component will provide more suppliers, content and diversity than ever before. Land providers include leading players such as BAE Systems, General Dynamics, Jankel Armouring, JCB Government & Defence, Land Rover, Patria Oyj, Rheinmetall, Streit and Supacat, to SMEs such as Miltech Hella (Greece), RADIA (Italy), O & H Concepts (Netherlands), ST Kinetics (Singapore) and CS-Force Company (UK).
A new initiative for 2015 is the launch of a ‘Future Soldier Systems Showcase’ in the static display area. The showcase will provide an additional platform for exhibitors to display land focused capabilities, discuss new technologies, trends in combat clothing, tactical requirements for national soldier systems and other key issues.
Maritime & waterborne demos
To date DSEI has secured eight visiting international warships: a Royal Navy Type 23 Frigate, Royal Navy River Class Offshore Patrol Vessel, Royal Navy Hunt Class MCMV, German Navy K 130 corvette FGD Ludwigshafen, Belgian Navy – 52 metre Coastal Patrol Vessel BNS Castor, an Indian Navy Frigate and MV. Partisan – Training vessel.
DSEI’s extensive waterborne demonstration programme will see around a dozen vessels undertaking demonstrations, with two performances per day, including Royal Marines Commandos performing a rapid boarding exercise on the VN Partisan.
Companies participating in the Naval Zone include SMEs such as Omnisense Systems (Singapore), Sapa Extrusion (Norway), Echomax (UK), Seatronics (UK) and Hydro Group (UK).
Security
The Security Zone has expanded and will include a new cyber security zone. Exhibitors will be showcasing their capabilities covering a broad spectrum of security and counter terrorism disciplines including 3D Laser Mapping (UK), ASTROHN Technology (Lithuania) and East Gear (Hong Kong).
Unmanned
The 2015 Unmanned Zone will host the complete spectrum of unmanned system designers and manufacturers for all applications and developments across the military and security sectors. In addition to the zone, companies presenting unmanned technologies in the wider exhibition include primes such as Selex, QinetiQ and Thales.
Medical
The Medical Innovation Zone will feature products and technologies with applications in humanitarian as well as military domains. The zone will host more demonstrations and seminars than previous years and has full support from the Defence Medical Services (DMS) and Joint Forces Command (JFC). Among others Deltacore (Slovenia) and Jarvis Manufacturing (UK) will exhibit in the Medical Innovation Zone.
