Cell Pack Solutions, proudly supplying custom built battery packs and off-the shelf solutions for over 15 years, move into their new custom built facility next month.
Like many companies our business has evolved over the years, switching units, taking on additional office space, adding separate warehousing facilities, etc.
It’s not always the best approach, but we had to take things one step at a time. However last year, we felt the time was right to take a step back and decide what would be the optimal workspace for a business like our own.
So we got our management team together, pooled their years of experience working for a variety of different companies, took advice from a number of local manufacturers who had gone through a similar process and started work with the architect to create a purpose built custom battery pack manufacturing facility.
Key factors to growth…
A number of factors have been key in the growth of our business, communication, responsiveness and support.
With the manufacture of custom cell packs we need to understand completely what the customer needs, and those requirements need to be shared with everyone concerned within the company.
What products are available that can provide the customer with what they need?
Do we already have a design that could be used to meet the client’s needs? (And with a growing catalogue that has already topped 2,000 there’s a good chance we do.)
What changes to technology might affect potential solutions and of course the price?
So we needed an architecture that allowed clear communication at every stage of the process: quotation, design, procurement, manufacture and test.
Time is money, which also meant we needed an architecture that ensured the process was fast and efficient.
Focussing on quality…
And of course we can never forget quality and we wanted an architecture that ensured we maintained the quality of our custom built products at every step of the manufacturing process
Building a new custom built facility has meant we could decide exactly where we wanted each department within the chain to sit and build the premises around that (instead of making do with what space we had and shoe-horning everything together).
Minimising lead times…
Our clients often need product yesterday, which is why we already hold considerable stock to allow us to ship them what they need when they need it.
Whilst lead times are often more critical for off-the-shelf products, our custom built solutions can also be required against very tight deadlines, which is why we need to be prepared.
Our new facility will allow us to hold and manage even more stock, providing more and more products with minimal lead times.
Much more than a distributor…
As an official stockist and battery pack assembler, not simply a distributor, we can often supply our clients with the products they need at unit prices that would usually warrant buying a much larger volume.
Not only that, they can have their products almost immediately and not suffer the extended lead times that are often associated with buying low cost cells direct from suppliers in China and the Far East.
The right products at the right price…
We also work very closely with our suppliers, in particular with the likes of Tadiran, GP, Saft, Ansmann and Duracell, not only to ensure we get products at the right price, but also to ensure we are staying ahead of the game in terms of the latest technologies and knowing where individual products are in their product lifecycle, a cheaper product, nearing the end of its lifecycle might make look like a good buy, but we’ll make sure this doesn’t create more problems in the future.
Of course the relationships with our suppliers has meant our product range has grown too and now covers individual cells (standard and rechargeable), battery packs, battery chargers, power supplies, torches and headlamps and even some personal protective equipment.
