DSEI, recognised internationally as the market leading exhibition for land, sea and air applications of defence and security products, technology and services, will take place at ExCeL London from 10-13 September 2013. The biennial event is the world’s principal fully integrated defence and security show and has traditionally showcased specialist zones dedicated to land, sea, air, security, unmanned systems and medical developments alongside first-class waterborne demonstrations in the dockyard adjoining the venue.
Organised by Clarion Events, DSEI 2011 attracted 1,391 exhibiting companies representing 46 countries and included 30 international pavilions, with 28,440 international visitors and 1070 global VIPs in attendance.
DSEI 2013 is ready to set a new benchmark – with at least 30,000 visitors from across the globe expected to be attracted by 41 international pavilions, 1,400 exhibitors and 6 dedicated seminar theatres – making it the seminal defence and security event of the year.
A showcase for innovation
DSEI 2013 will again be featuring an electronics pavilion, hosted by National Electronics Week, which is dedicated to electronic manufacturing companies who do business or would like to do business in the defence and security industry. Exhibiting companies within the Pavilion at DSEI 2013 will have a unique opportunity to promote their capabilities and technology to key defence industry decision makers and buyers as part of the electronics community.
Trackwise will be showcasing the world’s largest multi-layer flexible printed circuit board at this year’s event. The Gloucestershire-based company has developed a unique technique for manufacturing flexible printed circuit boards (PCBs) of any length. PCBs can be used as an alternative to traditional wiring harnesses, offering significant savings regarding space and weight.
Established in 1989, Trackwise has evolved to become a specialist in the manufacture of very large high-frequency (PCBs) for the antennas in the base stations run by the world’s preeminent mobile phone operators.
In recent years, its programme of innovation in manufacturing capability and processes has led to a number of advances in PCB applications well beyond radio frequency. The company enjoys an international client database and won the 2005 Queen’s Award for ‘Enterprise for International Trade’, following its success in increasing exports from £500,000 to more than £2m in three years.
First-time exhibitor, Durabook, is a semi-rugged/rugged mobile computing device manufacturer. Apart from a series of product launches the company intends to launch during DSEI, it will also be showcasing a number of established products such as the T7Q and the TA10.
The former is an all-in-one, fully ruggedized 7 inch slate tablet that enjoys an IP65 rating. Its compact size and mobile CPU offer unparalleled computing power. Meanwhile the TA10 is a 10.4 inch fully ruggedized PC tablet. The product’s characteristics include high graphics performance, MIL-STD 461F standing and a hot swappable second battery that ensures the unit can operate in the field for virtually unlimited periods of time – ideal for agents on critical missions and for UAV surveillance control.
Communications Audit is set to launch a new electronic sensor at DSEI. The company intend to use the show’s interactive environment to run a series of live demonstrations to reveal the product’s exceptional performance in terms of bandwidth, size, weight and power. Meanwhile Zettlex UK will be launching a new miniaturized range of Incoder sensors for precision measurement in harsh environments. The innovative range is still characterised by the accuracy and robust operation associated with its predecessors, whilst possessing the added value of smaller and lighter packages. The company will also be showcasing a comprehensive range of its existing products.
A leading military and radio communications solutions specialist, Elektrobit (EB), will showcase a comprehensive range of products at DSEI including services for wireless and wire-line Tactical Communications, Electronic Warfare and Signals Intelligence. An example is the innovative Tactical Wireless IP Network communication system, recently delivered to the Finnish Defence Forces. The product delivery consists of tactical router and radio head units, enabling the formation of effective Mobile ad hoc Networks (MANETs) even in harsh environmental conditions.
Kallista Electronics will also be fielding a significant presence at DSEI. The company has rapidly established itself as one of the major connector distributors within the UK. At DSEI it will promote its range of circular connectors from the world’s leading manufacturers. With a UK base and a US-based connector assembly facility, Kallista can manage very short lead times on many ranges of circular and military connectors within 4-5 days and with full traceability and certification to ISO approvals.
Other electronics companies exhibiting at DSEI include, but are not limited to; Cassidian, Cherming, the Defence Support Group, Lockheed Martin, Marshall Aerospace and Defence, Saab AB, Selex ES and Teledyne Defence.
“By grouping a range of leading companies within the National Electronics Week Pavilion, there is no doubt that there will be excellent networking opportunities across the supply chain, as well as the ability to see new technologies first-hand on the show floor”, said Duncan Reid, DSEI Event Director. “The technological innovation within the pavilion is symptomatic of the cutting-edge products set to be showcased at DSEI 2013, making this year’s show the most successful on record”.
